Overview
Even when the heat and smoke of life's circumstances press in around us — some trials we bring on ourselves, others that simply happen to us — the house of the Lord remains a place where God's power meets our suffering and transforms it. This message reminds us that God is not only abundantly faithful in spiritual matters but in practical, everyday ones as well, as seen in the testimony of a car given in generosity that far outlasted every expectation. The Holy Spirit is moving in our midst, and no obstacle — environmental, personal, or circumstantial — can stop what God is doing.

- Think about a time this past week when the heat — literally or figuratively — made you want to escape somewhere safe. Where did you go, and why?
- The pastor described struggles as falling into two categories: ones we create ourselves and ones that simply happen to us. Which category do you find harder to bring to God in prayer, and why?
- The testimony of the 300,000-mile car illustrated someone saying "watch what God will do" over something that looked worn out and past its usefulness. What does that story suggest to you about how God values things — and people — that others might write off?
